You probably know that there are 12 Chinese zodiac animals used to represent years. And 2019 is the year of the Pig, starting from February 5, 2019.
The pig is a lucky animal representing fun, good fortune and wealth. If you are pregnant, your baby will be born under the sign of the Pig and is designated to be a happy, easygoing, honest and brave person.
Definitely something to look forward to. And we are also looking forward to the beautiful celebrations. The Chinese New Year officially begins on February 5th, 2019. But preparations tend to begin early. Around one month before, people start buying presents and decorations. And all Chinese houses are cleaned from top to bottom, to sweep away any traces of bad luck. Doors and windowpanes are given a new coat of paint as well, usually red.
The story of Chinese New Year
Chinese New Year is based on various legends and the festival gives people a chance to remember ancestors and to pay tribute to gods. On Chinese New Year’s Eve families gather together for a big and long dinner. And children receive red packets with money for good luck. The traditions and rituals are very carefully observed!
The end of the New Year is marked by the Festival of Lanterns, which is a celebration with singing, dancing and, lantern shows. It will be held on February 19th this year.
Between all the traditions and taboos, because anything negative happening on Chinese New Year’s Eve means bad luck for the year to come, we found some cute items for the little ones. Year of the Pig inspired, of course:
