10 tips for traveling to Paris with children

Cityguide, TRAVEL

Fantastically beautiful, full of sights and good food - and not just for couples: Paris is a must-see on the travel with children bucket list too.

Doris Barbier-Neumeister has lived in the French capital for more than 20 years and works as a freelance author and translator. Her daughter Lili (15) is growing up bilingually. For Luna, she has put together her favourite addresses for a city trip to Paris with children.

10 tips for traveling to Paris with children

Perfect travel time for Paris?

Always! Paris is beautiful in every season, except maybe August. Then the city belongs to tourists and loses its flair. In addition, all good restaurants are closed for their summer break. And Paris without good restaurants is not the same!

Stay

Hotel Bienvenue
Located in the heart of Paris, and just a five-minute walk from major department stores, Hotel Bienvenue has opened its doors.
Here you have the feeling of being a guest of Parisian friends. The house has a beautiful green inner courtyard, where you can have breakfast when the weather is good. It has something very cozy despite the elegant décor.
Maybe it is the floral wallpaper in the rooms, or the wicker furniture with art books in the lobby. In the associated restaurant you can enjoy a very affordable lunch menu – three courses for 16 euros.
And because the hotel owner Adrien Gloagen himself has two children, he knows exactly what parents want: from now on there will be baking workshops every Wednesday afternoon.
Additional tip: At the bakery Bogato (see below), who organizes the baking courses at the Hotel Bienvenue, you definitely need to stop by. Here you will find the finest, best and tastiest cakes!
Hotel Bienvenue
Address:
Hotel Bienvenue
23, rue Buffault
75009 Paris
Double room from 130 euros
38 rooms in total, including 5 triple rooms and 4 double rooms with connecting door
(the hotel is very child-friendly!)

Food

Welwitsch
The 11th arrondissement of Paris is always good for surprises. For example “Welwitsch”: in the kitchen you will find Patricia Martins, a photographer from Angola. The walls are pink, the chairs are sunny-yellow and the smoothie is neon green this week. It is all new, organic, “healthy” with regional products and a brunch à la carte for the weekend. Children are more than welcome!
By the way: Welwitsch is a carnivorous desert flower, named after the Austrian botanist Friederich Welwitsch, who researched in the 19th century in the desert of Angola!

Address:
Welwitsch
91, rue du chemin-vert
75011 Paris.

La Guinguette d’Angèle
She has clearly revolutionized the Parisian food scene: Angèle Ferreux Maeght simply proves that you can eat well and healthy without going into excess. I am cooking through her latest cookbook that was recently launched in France: from chocolate brownie with beets to carrots in grenadine syrup – more than 200 recipes are waiting for me. And our children will finally – without complaining – eat vegetables.
Guinguette at Square Gardette is small but nice. Altogether ideal for a quick lunch in between and then off to the playground on Square Gardette.

Guinguette

Shopping

Le Petit Souk
Bedding, nursery accessories, towels … my favorite label is currently Moumout. Ideal to upgrade any nursery. And the largest selection can be found in the boutique “Le Petit Souk”

Address:
Le Petit Souk
14, rue de Charonne
75011 Paris

Bogato
The store is tiny, but full from bottom to top! The shelves bend with accessories such as baking molds (how about a guitar or a castle?), high heels cookie cutters, frosting and the cutest accessories for decorations.
Here, the future Parisian pastry bakers are trained. In the bakery behind the shop, there are regular children’s baking classes taking place – from Muffin to Madeleine.
sable-perroquet-chez bogato
Address:
Bogato
7, rue Liancourt
75014 Paris

Petit Bateau
A romper suit from Petit Bateau is standard on every little baby wardrobe. The great T-shirts and of course the underwear are already part of the French cultural heritage.
My favorite boutique:
Petit Bateau Store
36, rue de Sevigné
75003 Paris

Bonton
The concept store Bonton is an institution for Parisian ‘Bobos’. On three floors you will find everything you need for baby’s or children’s happiness, including a baby hairdresser and photo machine! In the basement is the home accessories and furniture line as well as bathroom and birthday party accessories and children’s books.
Address:
Bonton
5, Boulevard des Filles du Calvaire
75003 Paris
(you can find Bonton in London now too)

muy mucho paris
TIP: My latest discovery?
Muy mucho, a deco label from Barcelona will open a shop in Paris shortly. Here you will find vases, pillowcases, dishes and much more for a family-friendly home. At affordable prices!
After Menton in the south of France soon in Paris …

Leisure

Graffiti ateliers for kids in the EP7 at the Grande Bibliothèque
Off the beaten track! On the right bank of the Seine lies the EP7. Here you can enjoy the canteen of chef Adrien Tran and browse books on the terrace in deckchairs. There are regular street art workshops including colour spray distribution and banana bread tastings for children. The results of the participants are then projected on the façade.

Address:
EP7
133, Avenue de France
75013 Paris

Castle Museum Sceaux
The castle in the Parc des Sceaux with its large garden is one of the best kept secrets. An ideal place to stroll away from the big city. Walk through the park where you can find an orangery, waterfall and large lawns between old chestnut trees for strolling or picnicking. Relax in the park café or get an ice cream on the go. In fact much more beautiful and lovely than Versailles!
Tip: OPEN Air concerts are often held in the castle park (Madonna and Supertramp performed here!)

Address:
The park is located in the south of Paris and can be reached by bus 192 (Stop: Bourg-la-Reine, Sceaux or Parc de Sceaux).

Zoo at Bois de Vincennes
Monkeys, giraffe, pink flamingo or jaguar … the zoo at Bois de Vincennes, the large park in the east of Paris, has been recently renovated. Before or after your visit to the zoo, you should definitely take a boat ride over the adjacent Lac Daumesnil. There are also pony rides for the kids … you could almost forget being in Paris!

Address:
Avenue Daumesnil
75012 Paris
