Japanese skinny jeans brands that are popular with children in Japan.
Have you visited Japan before with your children? You may have noticed that ALL the Japanese kids tend to wear leggings (otherwise known as tights or stretch pants), even the boys! So why are leggings so popular?
My children were born in Japan and now go to school in Tokyo. I have both a son and a daughter, so here are some points that I have noticed:
- For girls, I have noticed that “stockings” with a closed foot are not so popular. When the kids go inside the house or school it is custom to take their shoes off. So it is much more comfortable in leggings than stockings! Stockings tend to be slippery on floorboards in Japan, so the kids usually take their socks off and run around in bare feet to avoid slipping over. Even in winter! So the girls tend to wear leggings with socks (rather than stockings).
- For boys, it is also common to wear leggings rather than jeans or cargo pants, as it is so common to sit on the floor in Japan. So leggings are MUCH more comfortable! My son always prefers to wear leggings so he can easily play on the floor with his friends at school, without feeling restricted from denim or bulky cargo pants.
As a result of the popularity of leggings, and the demand for comfort in the Japanese home and at school, there has been a huge development in the variety and quality of stretch pants for children.

Toridory is a popular Japanese fashion brand for their skinny jeans and dresses. They focus on a simple stretch design using a high quality cotton that won’t pill (which is important as children in Japan often play on the floor and on tatami mats!).

Devirock is also popular for their kids skinny jeans with ultra stretch. The key point of their skinny jeans are that they are ultra stretchy, so it is easy to squat or crouch down, and easy for children to put on the pants on their own (without the need to ask mum or dad for help!).

Bee is super popular for their skinny jeans too. Their key point is that they have rounded the shape in the hip-line to make it hard for the pants to fall off. This is fantastic as it is not the right etiquette in Japan if your child’s pants fall down at the back when they are squatting down!
