With summer just starting, we are sharing some very refreshing and fun drinks recipes to help you stay hydrated without the sugar load!

A compilation of kid friendly drinks that are perfect for getting you through the hot summer months. And sipping on fruity cocktails is the best way to cool off. Many refreshing summer drinks are loaded with sugars, and that just isn’t what our or our kids’ body needs. We are here to help!

We have recipes for yummy drinks that are delicious, healthy and nutritious! While pure water is always best, a little flavour is nice for a change.
Because with the sun up in the skies, it is important to keep up with your children’s fluid intake. And filling them with artificially flavoured drinks should be avoided. Because drinks filled with sugar and chemicals do you no favours in terms of health or hydration.

So here is our list of quick and healthy summer drinks for kids:

Watermelon Chiller

Refreshing and cool watermelon juice with a splash of lemon and some mint. The perfect drink to enjoy on a hot summer day.
2 cups chopped and chilled watermelon without seeds
1/2 cup of unsweetened cranberry juice
Juice of 1/2 lemon
Mint leaves
Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth. Pour over ice and enjoy.

Green Tea Drink

Fizzy and healthy!
Mix green tea, sparkling water, and sweeten with a touch of liquid stevia. (if you like)

Cucumber Water

Cucumbers are high in essential vitamins and the drink is super easy to make and really delicious!
1 medium cucumber cut into ½ inch slices
Water
Combine cucumber and water in a large pitcher and allow to sit in the fridge for one hour or longer.

Peach Smoothie

A peach smoothie makes for a perfect afternoon snack.
4 large peaches, pits removed
1/2 cup organic full fat milk
1/2 cup organic Greek yoghurt
1 tea spoon minced ginger
Sprigs of mint
Ice Cubes
Add the peaches, milk, yoghurt, ice cubes and ginger to a blender. Blend well.
Serve with a sprig of mint.

Herbacious Cooler

A refreshing herbal treat.
Gather a few sprigs of mint, cilantro,basil and thyme.
Fresh lemon juice.
Sparkling water.
Put the herbs in a pitcher, add the juice, ice cubes and top off with sparkling water.

Agua Fresca

This popular Mexican drink infuses water with your favorite fresh fruit.
Water
2 cups of your favourite fresh fruit (strawberries, pineapple etc)
Fresh squeezed lime juice
Place fruit and water in a blender and puree. Strain the liquid into a pitcher. Add lime juice and chill.

Iced Orange Chamomile Tea

Refreshing iced tea!
Prepare chamomile tea with 4 tea bags and 750ml water. Let it cool completely.
Add 1/2 cup of orange juice to the pitcher and pour it into glasses full of ice to serve.

Lavender Lemonade

Floral, sweet and sour!
Water
Dried lavender flowers
1 cup fresh lemon juice
Liquid stevia extract if you like
Bring 2 cups of water to a boil and add lavender flowers. Remove from the heat and steep for at least 1 hour.
Strain into a pitcher and add the remaining 4 cups of water, the lemon juice, and the stevia if desired.
Place the pitcher in the fridge for a minimum of 2 hours to chill.

Summer Hydration Tips:

Staying hydrated is essential, especially in the summer.
Avoid electrolyte replacement beverages, soft drinks, and other sugary drinks filled with chemicals.
When you are active, be sure to take plenty of pure water with you.
Drink mostly water, and have special drinks like those listed above occasionally. When you feel that you need something with some flavour.

With these recipes and tips you are all set to keep your children happy and healthy during the summer season.
