Cherry Blossom season is one of the highlights of the gardening year. And Japan may be famous for it but here in London the cherry blossom is just as pretty. If you know where to look!

The season generally runs from late March to early May. But precise timing depends on the weather and the variety – some trees blossom early and some late. So far we had a cold spring and the season will start a bit later. Overall the best time to visit the blooms is April. Have a look at the best spots in London and check your agenda. Where to see cherry blossom in London!

In Japan cherry blossom is known as ‘sakura’ . It holds a very special place in people’s hearts and is a symbol of the transience of life.  The advent of the blossom is marked with a festival known as ‘hanami’ (cherry blossom viewing), where family and friends put blue tarpaulins under the blossoming trees and come together to eat, drink and worship the prunus.

Here are the best spots to see Cherry Blossom in London for 2019:

Kew Gardens

Kew Gardens is probably your best bet for cherry blossom because of the number of trees. Their Japanese varieties include Kanzan, Tai Haku, Mume and Hatazakura. So you can see white as well as pink blooms.
The famous cherry blossom walk begins at the Rose Garden behind the Palm House. Then you continue via King William’s Temple and the Temperate House. Ending with a row of 15 cherry blossom trees at the Temperate House.

St James’s Park

In this park you can find several spots:
+ There’s a group of cherry trees near Storey’s Gate.
+ A beautiful little grove of white cherry trees on the south side of the lake.
+ A lovely tree by the lake at the Buckingham Palace end.

St Paul’s Cathedral

Right outside, you can spot the most perfect pink cherry blossom. (great for Instagram pictures)

Kensington Gardens

A beautiful blooming grove of pink and white trees near the Lancaster Gate entrance. Kensington Gardens has an early-flowering group of pink and white trees right there. Plus a perfect little grove of pink blossoming trees near the Albert Memorial on the East Albert Lawn.

Notting Hill Gate

Beautifully painted houses with cherry trees. Bring your camera!

Regent’s Park

A whole variety of cherry blossom can be found her right in the center of London. experiences. There is a beautiful grove of pink-blossomed trees at the south end of Avenue Gardens. An avenue of cherry trees on Chester Road.

Chelsea

Redcliffe Road. Beautfil cherry blossom spot.

Whitechapel

Valance Road is your spot for Cherry Blossom.

Blithfield Street, Kensington

The tiniest road in Kensington. Blithfield Street is a hidden gem that is home to the most gorgeous pink and white blooms.

Imperial Wharf

Close to Tynemount Street you will find a gorgeous cherry blossom that is pretty hard to miss.

South Kensington

On the corner of Courtfield Gardens! (another perfect spot for Instagram.)

Greenwich Park

There’s an avenue of cherry blossom trees leading up to the rose garden at Ranger’s House. Stunning!

Alexandra Palace

Nearly thirty trees, with grass to sit on and fantastic views over London.
